Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek is a beautiful excursion to the seductive Gokyo and Gokyo Ri lakes, and it is one of the most spectacular view points to enjoy excellent views of Everest and other Himalayas. The Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek is an alternative to classical treks in the Everest region. The route to the Gokyo Lakes is less busy but still affords the trekker with an insight into local village life, impressive views of icy rivers and stony, glacier debris snow-capped mountains, and of course the dazzling turquoise waters of Gokyo Lakes themselves. Gokyo Lakes actually consist of six bodies of water or lakes located at an altitude of between 4,700 and 5,000m in the Gokyo Valley. Gokyo Valley is located in the Sagarmatha National Park area.
Gokyo Valley which is one of the highest settlements in the Himalaya of Nepal, is a very popular trekking route. A series of emerald green lakes along the Ngozumpa Glacier, an impressive hike to Gokyo Peaks and a view from there are unique experiences. Gokyo Peak known as a Gokyo Ri (5357m, 17 575ft. above sea level) is a peak in the Khumbu region of the Nepal Himalayas. From Gokyo Ri we can see the brilliant view of four 8,000 meter peaks - Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu moreover beautifully reflected images of the snowy peaks in the aqua blue Gokyo lakes is awesome sight in the clear weather. Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri trek is for those who like to walk in the Everest region without the physical stress of reaching the base camp of Everest or crossing high passes in the vicinity.

Upon aarival at Tribhuvan International Airport(Kathmandu) you will be greeted by our airport represenatative. Afterwards we leave for Lukla airport. It will be an adventurous ride as the Tenzing/Hillary airport is a steep airstrip that is actually hanging off the side of a mountain. After reaching Lukla, we meet the rest of our trekking staff and begin trekking to Phakding. Overnight in Phakding.
Our course progress along the Dod Kochi river. During the course we cross several suspension bridges and pass through many villages, monasteries and towns. We can enjoy a amazing view of Mt. Thamserku from Benkar village along our trek. A step-by-step outing takes us to Jorsale, the last city to Namche Bazaar. The walk is enjoyable across the riverbed and we reach the Hillary suspension bridge. As we climb up towards Namche Bazaar, the magnificent sights of Kwangde Peak, Kusum peak, Kangaru peak, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Tawache, and many other fabulous mountains greet us. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
Acclimatization is important for us to adapt to a gradual change in the environment. It helps us to prevent catching Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). There are many things to do in Namche Bazaar, and we can spend a day acclimating. Namche Bazaar is the main center of the Khumbu area and includes government offices, ATMs, cybercafes, local shops, restaurants and a colorful market. Our guides can take us to discover the true charm of Namche Bazaar. Trekking in Sagarmatha National Park rewards us with sunrise views and views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kongde, etc. As we explore Namche Bazar, we observe the traditional Sherpa life, the Hillary Khumjung School, and enjoy the flora and fauna found at such a high altitude. We will spend the night in the Namche bazaar.
Namche Bazaar to Dole is a beautiful trail. From Namche, the wide and scenic beautiful trail continues to Kyanjuma village. The trail is perched on a rocky mountain high above the gorge of Dudh Kosi. The incredible views of Thamserku, Kongde, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Mt. Everest from the trail goes along with you as you walk to Kyanjuma. From there, the trail divides into two wings: one to Everest Base Camp and the other to Gokyo lakes. We will reach Dole after 5 hours of trek approximately. The trail passes under the shades of Rhododendron, Juniper, coniferous trees and green pastures along the trail are the grazelands of Yaks. Overnight in Dole.
From Dole, the trail takes a steep climb through Lhabarma and Luza. The trail is highly scenic and peaceful. Passing through the trails you can smell the fragrance of Scrub Junipers. Look deep down and you’ll see Dudh Koshi. Then the trail continues to Macchermo. Upon aarival at Machhermo, we can see an enthralling view of Mt. Thamserku. Overnight in Machhermo.
From Macchermo, the trail takes an ascent to a scenic ridge and and enjoy views of the Dudh Koshi valley and Kangtega, Thamserku and Cho-Oyu mountains. As we walk our trail passes through a Chorten and reaches Phangga. We descend to the bank of the river before ascending to the terminal moraine of the Ngozamba glacier along a steep path. We pass through Longpongo, Raboche Tsho and Dudh Pokhari before reaching Gokyo. On the road next to the first lake, we see what are thought to be the traces of a Lama (Buddhist priest). Overnight in Gokyo.
We spend another day in Gokyo to acclimatize to the high altitude and we climb Gokyo Ri as well. From the top of Gokyo Ri we admire the Himalayan vista and the tranquil Gokyo lakes. We also hike to the fourth and the fifth Gokyo lakes. A climb up a nearby hill will guarantee us remarkable views of Cho-Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makulu - the spot is called Scoundrel's Viewpoint. From the northern part of the 5th lake we see the Cho Oyu base camp and Ngazumpa Glacier. We retrace to Gokyo to spend the night.
We descend on a trail along the Dudh Koshi River and pass the first of many Gokyo lakes. On the way back we also enjoy views of the Cholatse and Taboche peaks. After reaching the chorten at the edge, we see great views of Thamserku, Cho Oyu, and Kangtega mountains. We walk past Machhermo, Luza and Lhafarma villages before reaching Dole. Overnight in Dole.
We descend on a steep trail to Phortse Thanga admiring rhododendrons, wildflowers and waterfalls. We can admire a good view of Khumbila peak during the trail. On our way to Namche the view of Taboche, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kangtega mountains are ours to admire. After reaching Namche army camp hill, we look back to see Lhotse, the tip of Everest and Tengboche for one last time. About a kilometer from here is Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
We descend a rocky path and cross several suspension bridges before walking along a level path. The air is warmer as we walk along the same path to reach Lukla. Our trek in the mountain ends after arriving in Lukla. We spend our time reminiscing about our time spent in the mountain. Overnight in Lukla.
We fly back to Kathmandu on the earliest possible flight. After reaching Kathmandu we have the rest of the time off to rest untill our scheduled flight. We bid you a good farewell untill next time. On the way back, you will have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
